Bellator 46 took place tonight in Hollywood, Florida at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The MTV2 televised main card showcased the featherweight quarterfinals and the action was impressive from start to finish.
Pat Curran vs. Ron Palomino
In the main event of the evening, Team Curran representative Pat Curran dropped Ron Palomino early and immediately looked to finish on the ground. Curran tried to finish the Peruvian fighter with a D’arce choke before transitioning into a Peruvian necktie to finish Palomino. With the rather fitting finish, Curran succesfully makes his featherweight debut and advances to face Ronnie Mann in the stacked featherweight tournament.
Marlon Sandro vs. Genaire da Silva
One of the top featherweights outside the UFC made his debut tonight and Marlon Sandro not disappoint. Sandro battled da Silva from start to finish and nearly finished his fellow Brazillian early in the fight. Da Silva was no pushover and had his moments in the fight but was unable to overcome the skill and expierience of Sandro. While the fight was a surprising split decision, Sandro was clearly the better fighter and gained the judges nod to advance to the semifinals against Nazareno Malagarie.
Nazareno Malagarie vs. Jacob Devree
Jacob Devree swore before the fight that he would not submit to Argentine fighter Nazareno Malagarie. That was easier said than done however as the Judo and BJJ black belt unleashed a grappling assault that would have made Deminan Maia proud. Malagaire transitioned from submission to submission throughout the fight before finally submitting Devree with guillotine choke in the third round. As mentioned above, Malagarie will face Marlon Sandro in the semifinals.
Ronnie Mann vs. Adam Schindler
Sengoku veteran Ronnie Mann pummeled wrestler Adam Schindler to run his winstreak to four. Mann landed a brutal right uppercut to left hook combination that dropped the wrestler. Schindler tried to recover but ate several hammer fists that eventually seperated him from consciousness. Mann advances in the tournament to face Pat Curran and continues to impress since joining the organization in April.
