Shinya AokiAoki[Update] ONE FC is still attempting to find an opponent for Aoki on ONF FC 5 in the hope of headlining both cards for the promotion according to MMAWeekly.  This leaves just over two weeks for the promotion to find an opponent for Aoki. [Update]

Shinya Aoki, who had yet to have an opponent announced for ONE FC 5: “Pride of A Nation” on August 31, now finds himself off the bill entirely. The former DREAM Lightweight Champion now finds himself headed to the Singapore Indoor Stadium to headline “ONE FC 6: Rise of Kings,” where he will meet surging prospect Arnaud Lepont to crown the promotion’s first lightweight champion.

Aoki (30-6) most recently saw a seven-fight win-streak snapped in April after being battered by former Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez in the rematch of their Dream Lightweight Title bout from 2008. The Japanese submission ace’s prior run saw him take wins over the likes of Tatsuya Kawajiri, Marcus Aurelio, Lyle Beerbohm, and former WEC Lightweight Champion Rob Mcullough.

Lepont (9-1) is curently riding a six-fight win-streak. The Frenchman most recently defeated Brian Choi at ONE FC 4 with a third round rear-naked choke. “The Game” now looks to earn the biggest victory of his career and obtain the promotion’s inaugural 155 lb. title.
