Ultimate_Fighter__Path_to_Greatness_2500_640x360_18903107821The Ultimate Fighter 17 returned to action tonight on FX. This week featured the fifth bout in The Ultimate Fighter house as Team Sonnen’s Tor Troéng took on Team Jones’ Josh Samman. Be sure to stay tuned to MMAFrenzy as we track fourteen middleweights, coached by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, vying to become The Ultimate Fighter. [Spoilers Below]

Episode begins with a frustrated Bubba McDaniels lamenting his loss last week, Coach Jones notes that he did not take much damage and could get the wild card spot. Team Sonnen decides that it is only fitting for Troéng to receive the “Hammer of Thor” that is comically small at the start but his teammates have some fun with creating a fitting hammer for the Swede.

At the Team Sonnen practice, a small incident occurs when Luke Barnatt gets frustrated with Uriah Hall after the fighter tags the Brit with a harder than needed punch. The two fighters refuse to work with each other and Barnatt talks about how frustrating of a teammate Hall is because of his ego.

Barnatt then gets the focus back on Tor, saying he is vastly underrated because he comes from Europe.  Coach Sonnen loves the fighter, but just wishes he had more a killer instinct.

Cut to Team Jones, where McDaniel and Samman have become somewhat of an annoyance to the other fighters with their insistence on being leaders. Back at the gym, Samman recounts how he nearly lost his leg following his first TUF tryout years ago. The fighter feels fortunate to still have his leg. Samman also talks about being raised in an extremely non-violent household but finally moved over to MMA because he wanted to use his gifts.

Josh SammanBack at the house, Gilbert Smith is talking with everyone in the house about who they want to fight. Hall calls out Barnatt and everyone is a bit surprised that he would call out a teammate prior to the preliminaries. Hall is surprised that everyone reacts angrily to it, but it was somewhat of a surprise to a team that has actually come together pretty well.

Hall later admits to Team Jones that was a messed up thing to say and tries to say it was a joke. Smith tries to get Hall to talk about Tor but he shuts it down. The guys change the conversation and Hall takes offense to something Cella has and calls him and his girlfriend a “bitch” and everyone is shocked. Hall tries to justify it by saying he was bullied but several of the guys are saying “we were bullied too.” Needless to say, Hall is an equal opportunity offender, even taking a shot at Colin Hart as well.

Everyone talks about just calling Hall “the bully” the morning after. Hall seems to blame it on other people despite the fact he seems unable to turn off the mouth.

The two teams go bowling that night, and Sonnen challenges Jones to a game. Sonnen sets up a wager wear the losing coach will have to wear the opposing coach’s jersey during a session. The two both admit they are not great at it but they both have a good time with it. Jones loses a close game to Sonnen and “pulls a Forrest” and jokingly runs out of the bowling area. Jones admits that he hates to lose, but the whole thing was pretty comical.

Back at the gym, both fighters make weight and the bout is set. Sonnen seems optimistic

Josh Samman vs. Tor Troéng

  1. Touch of gloves and we’re off. JS slips on the opening kick. Hard legkick by JS. JS swarms and a few shots get through but TT clinches him and turns him against the cage. JS reestablishes control and lands some hard knees to the body and thigh in the clinch. Fighters break and TT lands a wicked uppercut and reasserts clinch control. JS tries a takedown but TT easily fends it off and ends up in control. Sonnen calls for TT to let him up but Tor dives back in. JS seizes control of an opportunity and sweeps to stand up and a takedown of his own. Vicious shots from JS as TT works up and JS lands some big knees in he clinch. tt breaks the clinch and JS chases. JS head kick lands to the body and he pursues and blastsTT unconscious with a left-right-left combo that flash KOs that leaves Tor asking what happened.
