FX_TUF_S3_FightersInfo_0018_Jimmy-QuinlanThe Ultimate Fighter 17 returned to action tonight on FX. This week featured the sixth bout in The Ultimate Fighter house as Team Sonnen’s Jimmy Quinlan took on Team Jones’ Clint Hester. Be sure to stay tuned to MMAFrenzy as we track fourteen middleweights, coached by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, vying to become The Ultimate Fighter. [Spoilers Below]

The teams head to Hooters for some needed R and R. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves but Uriah Hall. Both teams come together at the end for a group photo and Hall decides to exclude himself from the fun again, with the coaches trying to get him involved to no avail.

Back at the Team Sonnen training center, one Team Sonnen’s coaches tries to get Uriah to relax. Apparently Uriah is having trouble focusing and sleeping.

Josh Samman has a bit of scare with some severe pain in his thigh. The fighter is taken to the ER for some scans and Samman talks about his family’s history of blood clots. Luckily, Samman is released from the ER with no blood clots but told to keep and eye on the injury.

Jimmy Quinlan talks about his life at home. Quinlan is a police officer back in his home town and is grateful for how his department has handled him on the show. Sonnen praises Quinlan at a training session and tells him not to worry about being hit in the face because it will happen in a fight. Sonnen talks about how loaded this tournament is and believes this is the most loaded with talent tournament he has seen.

Atlanta’s own Clint Hester is back at the house and having some fun on the display Harley-Davidson at the house. Hester talks about being from Powder Springs, GA and how life was not bad growing up. Hester started out a boxer but moved into MMA when he moved to another gym.

At the Team Jones training session, Jones works with Hester on certain kicks and other aspects of his game. Jones enjoys having Hester on his team because he is a quick learner and hard worker.

At the weigh-ins, both fighters are on weight for tomorrow’s fight and the bout is set. Coach Jones is laughing because both guys have a hard time keeping a straight face in the stare downs. The guys really seem to get along and believe that makes it easier to fight each other.

Clint Hester vs. Jimmy Quinlan

  1. Quinlan immediately digs for the takedown and secures one direcly into side control. Hester waits until Jimmy looks to improve explodes out. In the scramble, Hester is taken down again but lands some hard elbows and punches and Quinlan just stays clinched to the body. Hester works back to his corner and locks up a front headlock and starts landing hard knees to the body and seizes control in the clinch. Big knee from Hester and he again tees off with a nice flurry that hurts Quinlan and he immediately starts working for the takedown. Big body shots by Hester are punishing the tenacious Quinlan. Quinlan finally gets the takedown with a minute left but is doing nothing with it and Hester works back up again lands a brutal knee on Quinlan. Jimmy again gets him down but still cannot do anything with it as the round ends. MMAFrenzy scores it 10-9 Hester. The teams are shown arguing the score after the round ends.
  2. This time Hester looks for the takedown and briefly gets caught in a guillotine but he controls the clinch until Quinlan finally circles out and lands another takedown. Quinlan briefly takes Hester’s bout and  then takes mount. Finally some strikes from Quinlan and then he secures the rear-naked choke and ends the fight. Not an overly impressive performance by Quinlan but it gets the victory.
