UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones suffered one of the more gruesome injuries you will see in MMA when he injured his big toe in the midst of dominating Chael Sonnen in the UFC 159 main event. The injury appeared to be a compound fracture of the big toe that would leave the champion on the shelf for an extended period of time.

Fortunately, Jones would receive some good news this week as it turns out the toe was dislocated rather than broken. This distinction certainly lowers the expected recovery time for the champ. Jones took to twitter to address the issue earlier today:

While the news means that Jones will be able to return to action sooner rather than later, UFC light heavyweight contenders Alexander Gustafsson and Lyoto Machida have pushed for a bout with each other to decide the true number one contender. It stands to reason that the UFC will go ahead with that pairing, with Jones likely taking on the winner later this year.
