Randy Couture knows a thing or two about being an undersized fighter in the UFC’s heavyweight division, and the legendary fighter has relayed some words of wisdom to current champ Cain Velasquez, as he prepares for his bout with Antonio Silva. Yes, Velasquez has already cruised through Silva once and is a heavy favorite to win at UFC 160, but that doesn’t mean the challenger doesn’t pose a threat. After all, the man’s nickname is “Bigfoot”.

While speaking to MMA Junkie.com, Couture reminded Velasquez that “you can’t afford to play around with guys that size; trust me I know”, in reference to his 2008 loss to the massive Brock Lesnar. Since Velasquez has already demonstrated what he needs to do to beat Silva, and in bloody and violent fashion, there’s no reason to reinvent the wheel tomorrow night.

“[Silva] is dangerous. He’s big, he’s strong, and he can hit hard, and if Cain gets caught up in that kind of fight and wants to trade with him, it could be a surprise. But I think Cain is smart,” Couture noted.  “I think he’s going to have a game plan and do the appropriate thing he needs to do: implement the striking he has, but use wrestling to win that fight.”

It’s interesting that Couture also thinks Silva should try to implement his top game against Velasquez. It’s going to be fascinating to see how this goes down.
